The Louisville Regional Airport Authority (LRAA) had its wings clipped on Monday by a ransomware attack on its systems, reports say. The Louisville Regional Airport Authority said it fell victim to ransomware Monday morning.

Ransomware is malicious software designed to block access to files or data until a ransom is paid. According to local news sources, an LRAA spokesperson said the incident encrypted the municipal corporation’s localized files, did not affect operations or security systems at the two airports under its purview, Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport and Bowman Field.

Sara Brown, LRAA public relations manager, said the attack was limited to the files of the airport authority. Brown said the ransomware attack did not have an impact on operations or security systems at either Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport or Bowman Field. The issue affected files related to the Regional Airport Authority but did not impact operations or security systems at Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport or Bowman Field.

Brown said the files are in the process of being restored and no ransom was paid.

The spokesperson said the malicious software was deleted, and the affected files are in the process of being restored via backups.
