A MAN who called police saying he was a pedophile has been jailed for possessing hundreds of indecent images of children and extreme pornographic images.
Andrew Quarmby, 59, called West Yorkshire Police saying he was a pedophile, was ashamed by his behaviour and was trying to commit suicide.
Emergency services and police attended his home address and a search by officers found 616 indecent images of children and extreme pornographic images, which were found across four electronic devices owned and used by Quarmby.
Clare Walsh, prosecuting, told the court Quarmby had been searching for indecent images of children for around 12 months online before he called police to admit his behaviour on July 13, 2020.
Mrs Walsh added: “He visited the dark web, but could not work it out, so he left.
“He admitted to a sexual interest in children, but preferred 12-year-olds and liked both girls and boys.
“He was ashamed and could not live with the guilt of what he had done.”
When he was arrested at his home address, he told police officers he had never touched a child.
A total of 230 Category A indecent images were found on Quarmby’s devices, 249 Category B images and 195 Category C images, 12 further prohibited images and the extreme pornographic image.
They were both still and moving images, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.
Quarmby, of HMP Leeds, was jailed for six months for the five offences.
He appeared via video link from prison, HMP Leeds, which was also given as his address, for the hearing.
He was also given a sexual harm prevention order for 10 years.
Quarmby has 17 convictions for 70 offences dating between 1981 and 2014. But the court heard he had no previous history of sexual, or the like, offending.
He was jailed for life for arson in 1996 but was released on licence and had been recalled to prison after this offending.
He was sentenced yesterday for four counts of making an indecent photograph/pseudo-photograph of a child and one offence of possessing an extreme pornographic image portraying an act of intercourse/oral sex with a dead/alive animal.
No further details of the extreme pornographic image charge were given.
