A Sudbury man was using the “dark web” to find and download child pornography, authorities said.

Police arrested Tyson Tu, 49, on Wednesday at his 22 Colburn Circle home, police said.

“The arrest comes after a lengthy investigation by the Sudbury police detectives in conjunction with members of the Homeland Security Investigations Cyber-Crimes/Child Exploitation Boston Field office Task Force,” Lt. John Perodeau said.

During the investigation, police obtained several subpoenas and served several search warrants, as well as used surveillance, police said. During the investigation, police found “multiple images of very young minor aged victims.”

According to police, Tu was using the “dark web” to find the images. The “dark web”  is a term given to encrypted online content that is not found on normal search engines.

“Currently, there is no reason to believe that Mr. Tu was involved in creating any of the material,” police said in a statement.

Police charged Tu with two counts of possession of child pornography. He was held on $50,000 bail overnight at the Sudbury Police Department.

Tu was released without bail after his arraignment Wednesday in Framingham District Court. He is due back in court on June 28 for a pretrial conference.
