Pedophile Caught again For Downloading Child Porn 24 Hours After Release From Prison

A sex offender caught with sickening images of child abuse on his phone just 24 hours after his release from prison could face an extended sentence.

Stewart Tivendale, 24, may be deemed a dangerous offender after he returned to disturbing online habits as soon as he regained his freedom.

He was jailed for three years in May last year after he made sexual advances to children and collected 11 hours of child abuse films.

He was released from prison on October 25 this year, Teesside Crown Court heard.

Judge James Brown said: “On October 26 police come around, ask for his phone. There’s images found on it.”

On Tuesday, Tivendale admitted three new charges of making indecent photographs of children – 605 pictures, including 161 at the most serious level.

He had previously pleaded guilty to three counts of possessing the images.

Prosecutor Harry Hadfield said: “He accepts that he’s been engaged in a network that involves indecent photographs of children.”

John Nixon, defending, said: “A custodial sentence is inevitable.

“The court will have to consider the question of dangerousness. To that end I do think the court will need a pre-sentence report.”

Tivendale, of The Crescent, Linthorpe, Middlesbrough, appeared in court via prison video link.

The facts of his case was not fully outlined in court as he was remanded in custody until sentencing on January 8 next year.

Judge Brown said the court needed a report “addressing the issues of dangerousness” before determining sentence.

He said: “It is inevitable that there is going to be a custodial sentence of some sort.”

He told Tivendale: “Because of the nature of the offenses which you’ve now pleaded guilty to, particularly coming on the back of the previous convictions, as part of the sentencing exercise I’m obliged to consider a number of things.

“And they include whether or not you would qualify for an extended sentence.

“Before I reach such a decision I need further information. That includes a report from the Probation Service.

“I’ll sentence you hopefully, all being well, on January 8. You’ll remain where you are until then.”

Tivendale’s sordid hidden world was first exposed when he traded in his phone at a Redcar shop, the court heard in May last year.

The shop manager opened the phone to find a picture of a naked 13-year-old girl with the title “dark web”, and called police.

Another 24 similar child abuse images were found, leading to the discovery of 1,193 more on his computer tower and another phone at his Redcar home three days later.

The vile material included 11 hours of videos on the computer, with the worst images showing children as young as nine in distress.

Tivendale had been systematically searching for the pictures, chatting to underage boys and girls on the internet, asking for indecent pictures of victims and sending an explicit video.

He tried to persuade children to take part in sexual activity in obscene messages, and spoke of putting his hand around telling one girl’s throat.

He talked of taking boys’ and girls’ virginities, and asked a boy: “Do you fancy meeting right now?” No meetings occurred.

A week after admitting these offenses, detectives found 33 more child abuse images, of children as young as three, on Tivendale’s phone at his home.

He admitted 16 charges last year, offending which spanned years since he was 17.

These were five counts of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity, two of attempting to incite child sexual exploitation, six of making and one of distributing indecent images of children, possessing 29 extreme pornographic images, and arranging or facilitating a child sex offense.

Duncan McReddie, then defending, said Tivendale guilelessly and candidly owned up activities rooted in a troubled childhood and had to move home as his crimes were revealed.

Judge Simon Bourne-Arton QC, then the Recorder of Middlesbrough, jailed Tivendale for three years in May last year.

He said Tivendale had an “obsession with sex with young children, whether it be boys or girls”, while accepting he did not intend to meet the youngsters he talked to online.
