United States Attorney Trent Shores says a Tulsa man was sentenced Thursday for smuggling ecstasy into the U.S. from a German supplier in Dec. 2018.
Jeremy Singer, 37, was sentenced to 70 months in federal prison.
Singer pleaded guilty Aug. 7, 2019.
In a signed plea agreement he said he placed an order for ecstasy through an encrypted site on the dark web and had it shipped to his Tulsa home under pseudonym.
According to Singer, he planned to sell the ecstasy for profit, but U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials intercepted the package when it entered the U.S.
Undercover agents later delivered the package to Singer’s home in Tulsa and arrested him when he signed for the package.
While on bond, Singer agreed to appear in federal court on March 12, but instead fled the state.
After searching for Singer for almost a month, authorities in Johnson County Wyoming attempted to stop his vehicle and that’s when Singer led them on an off-road chase before abandoning his vehicle and disappearing into nearby fields.
Singer was found the next day and attempted to elude authorities on a bulldozer he had stolen, before he was finally arrested.
“Criminals operating in the shadows of the Darknet should know they will not forever remain anonymous. We will follow your digital footprints and find you. Then, we will bring you to justice,” said U.S. Attorney Trent Shores. “Mr. Singer will now spend the next five plus years in federal prison for purchasing ecstasy and smuggling it into the United States via the dark web. It is reassuring to know the men and women of law enforcement are working to keep Americans safe from the dangers of the dark web.”
